Correct sentence:

The chart shows information about how many people went to the cinema in one particular country, in 2014.

How people went to the cinema is a noun clause. It is dependent, which means it cannot exist on its own, and it contains a verb.

The number of people going to the cinema is a noun phrase - there is no verb

Correct sentence:

The chart shows information about how much meat was consumed in one particular country in 2014

How much meat was consumed is a noun clause. It is dependent, which means it cannot exist on its own.

As a clause, it requires a correct verb, not an abbreviated one.
